Sony WH-1000XM3 – An Overview

Check on Amazon | Amazon India

When you think of wireless, Sony, and noise cancellation features, the first headphone that would come to your mind would invariably be the Sony WH-1000XM3. The headphone is an excellent example of how to improve the noise cancellation functionality on a headphone.

It has been the best and flagship from the house of Sony and offers feature-rich specs backed by construction that boasts of high-quality materials. The audio performance is one of the best and the same as the one you would expect on a premium headphone. The headphones come with four microphones inside to provide you access to the best noise cancellation ever.

In terms of construction, they are quite lighter and provide a better fit, thereby making it quite comfortable. The cushion padding on the bridge/headband is yet another thoughtful addition that further enhances your experience. This improves the comfortability also. The enlarged and deepened earcup should be yet another feature that can help you in better hearing and comfort levels.

From the performance point of view, the active noise cancellation offered on the headphones is one of the strongest. To be straightforward, if noise cancellation is your sole criteria, this is the best headphone that you can lay your hands on. It also offers you Quick Attention mode and Ambient Noise Mode that makes it one of the prime options you can go with. Quick Attention mode needs you to put your palm to the right earcup, and that reduces the volume. You no longer need to take off the headphones from ears to listen to what is happening outside.

Audio quality is impressive as well. The mids are straightforward, the bass is weighty, and the highs are apparent. Support for aptX and aptX HD codecs will further enhance your audio experience. Google Assistance integration is one of the features we would consider a great initiative. The call quality offered by the headphones is decent, though we would not be able to speak high about them.

Finally, you would get a battery life of 30 hours per charge, which should be quite decent.

Pros

  • An excellent noise cancellation option
  • A great sound quality
  • Battery life is impressive

Cons

  • Call clarity average
  • It cannot connect to multiple devices simultaneously.

Sony WH- CH710N – A Concise Review

Check on Amazon | Amazon India

If you are checking out the affordable noise cancellation headphones, the Sony WH- CH710N should be your best bet. In fact, the headphone is designed as a cheaper variant of the flagship WH-1000XM3. That in itself should let you understand what to expect. You can expect a host of essential features from the 1000XM3, but also a few omissions to cut costs.

The headphones are priced at less than half of what a Sony WH- 1000XM3 would cost you. They are the most affordable noise-canceling headphones, but the noise cancellation is achieved through the means of Artificial Intelligence. The headphones use a feature referred to as AINC or Artificial Intelligence Noise Cancellation.

As for the construction, Sony has switched to hard plastic to cut costs. Almost all significant parts that include the headband and the earcup are made of plastic. While offering an over the ear style with a closed-back construction, the headphones provide you easy portability because of their lightweight.

The headphones do not support the aptX codec and the in house LDAC. The maximum you can get is SBC and AAC audio codec support. Of course, the NFC connectivity should be one of the thoughtful additions. The pairing process through NFC went smoothly when we tried it on our Android device.

The headphone offers you a better degree of wearing comfortability. The straps can be easily adjusted to suit your ear and head size. They also work great for physical activities such as running or working out at a moderate speed. However, you may need to adjust the headphones occasionally as they tend to exert a little pressure on the ears. If you are wearing them for more extended periods, you may need to adjust them every two hours or so.

As with the 1000MX3, you get access to Google Assistant integration. The 30mm dynamic driver and dual microphones are the other two features that would sum up the headphones and its features. As for the sound performance, we found it quite exceptional. The sound quality is decent; the bass is quite good.

Coming to the battery, Sony claims that it offers you a backup of around 35 hours. In fact, the noise cancellation reduces the battery life considerably, but even with the noise cancellation on always, we could get close to what Sony claims.

Pros

  • It comes with AI (Artificial Intelligence) based noise cancellation, which works great.
  • A great battery life
  • A perfect audio clarity

Cons

  • No option for high-resolution audio
  • Charging may take a long time

Sony WH- H910N – A Sneak peek

If you are looking for an extremely high-end audio experience with enhanced noise cancellation features on a budget, the Sony WH- 910N is the prime choice you can opt for. You can expect a remarkable listening experience on the Sony WH – 910N.

The active noise cancellation has become an industry standard of late, and the Sony WH – 910N lives up to the hype. The headphones are designed to provide high-resolution audio with active noise cancellation with dual microphones. It is slightly affordable when compared to 1000MX3 but offers the best noise cancellation that we have come across on the latter. The headphone has been designed to keep the comfortability in view and provides a considerably high degree of portability with a lighter footprint.

The headphones are made with plastic, and that is precisely what makes the headphones quite lighter. However, it is still sturdy and feels quite comfortable. The earpads can be swiveled for secure handling and storage. This can be a handy feature that makes it rather easy to carry the headphones.

The headphone comes with 25 mm drivers as opposed to the 40 mm drivers found on the Sony 1000MX3. Support for high-resolution audio, LDAC over Bluetooth 5.0, and Digital Sound Enhancement Engine (DSEE) HX deserve favorable mention when it comes to the sound quality and performance. The sound production is one of the best, though some of us audiophiles may consider the soundstage a little concentrated.

The noise cancellation is one of the best and mimics the system on 1000MX3. It uses dual microphones and thus offers a high degree of noise cancellation. However, there is no personal noise cancellation optimizer observed on the 1000MX3.

Finally, the battery backup is rated at 35 hours per single charge and can go down to 30 hours with the noise cancellation switched on. Even the charging time appears to have received an improvement making it one of the better choices compared to the Sony WH-710N.

Pros

  • Comfortable and well built.
  • An impressive listening experience.
  • Google Assistant support
  • Decent battery life with a fast-charging functionality
  • Best in class Quick Attention mode

Cons

  • Does not come with a carry case
  • Noise cancellation still needs improvement

Which one among them would you go with?

Well, that would be a personal preference. The purchase of a headphone is always a personal choice. The preferences vary when the consumption of music is concerned. However, among the headphones that we just discussed, the Sony WH-1000 MX3 is a flagship and lives up to its name. Of the other two, I would prefer opting for the Sony WH-910N if you are looking for a cost-effective, budget restrictive choice.

What makes Sony WH-1000MX3 a better option than the other two? Well, it offers you excellent sound quality. Support for aptX HD and LDAC is what would further enhance the experience. You would also get access to better noise cancellation options on the 1000MX3 when you compare it to the other two. Of course, the Sony WH-910N sounds better enough than the 710N.

And then, from the design point of view, 1000MX3 takes the lead closely followed by the H910N. The CH710N and H910N offer a better battery backup when you compare it to the 1000MX3.

In the end, the Sony WH-1000MX3 should be one of the best headphones among those three. If you budget issues, you can consider opting for the H910N.

The Closing Thoughts

Well, that was how you would be able to differentiate between the three different headphones from Sony. The detailed discussion here should ideally provide you access to the info on the full features offered by the three competing headphones. That would ideally help you pick the ones that perfectly meet your needs.
